We booked a two day guided tour of Jaipur and a day trip to the Taj Mahal.
In addition to my initial wish to see lots of jewels and fabrics, they arranged so many things for us, including Indian astrology and Ayurvedic diagnosis, that I wondered if it was really possible to do all that in one day!
I was lucky to be accompanied by Ranjan (CEO of Tabizuki), and when I told him I would be staying in Delhi on the last day, he invited me to his home. We
enjoyed delicious chai and dinner in his home, which is also a private lodging. I was able to get a glimpse of local life, not just sightseeing, and it was a very satisfying trip!
On typical travel agency tours, the shops you are taken to are all for tourists, and the souvenirs are expensive and boring, but Tabizuki’s tours are completely custom-made, and they even fulfilled my wishes to go to local markets and Starbucks, making it a one-of-a-kind travel agency.
India is a very attractive country, but it’s all about traveling safely, and I think a guide who knows the local area well is absolutely essential for that.
I think it’s good to think of the guide fee as buying safety and security.
